Mount Shasta has been erupting on and off for over 500,000 yeears.  Mount Shasta is a member in the Cascade Volcanic Arc.  Mount Shasta is considered an active volcano.  The Hotlum Cone erupted about 200 years ago- the last significant Shasta eruption, and was observed by the explorer La Pérouse, from his ship off the California coast, in 1786.
