What was the early quality and detail of ultrasound scans?

The quality of the early ultrasound scans was pretty good for taking a look at tissue under the skin.On shallow scans a higher frequency of sound was used that gave a fairly clear picture. If deeper penetration, 6 or more inches, a lower frequency was required and the picture was even less clear or grainy. They were no where near the quality of the new 3D and 4D scans which can almost give you a prefect picture inside.
