  1. USS would make it a Navy ship.

She was civilian and her designation was "N.S." for "Nuclear Ship"

Last I saw she was a museum ship at Patriots Point, Charleston, S.C.

  2. She is the N/S Savannah, laid down in 1957 at New York Shipbuilding Corp.  She first went to sea in 1962.

She was not commercially viable, and was used as a display concept only.  She went on display at Patriot's Point Naval Museum in Charleston, SC in 1981.

She was found in need of drydocking in 1993, and has been moved half a dozen times.  She now awaits the solutions to the thorny problems of how to rid her of all radioactivity.  She is moored at BAE Systems pier in Norfolk, VA, and is not open to the public.

An internet search on "n/s savannah" will get you large amounts of information and many pictures.

  3. uss savannah......

  4. Yes its the N.V. Savannah. This is a good link for it.
