The Romans were the first to develop glass Window Panes, during the early Roman Empire.

Around the time of Emperor Augustus (1st Century CE) the first window panes are thought to have been produced. The earliest panes were rough cast into a wooden frame on top of a layer of sand or stone, but from the late 3rd Century CE onwards window glass was made by the muff process, where a blown cylinder was cut laterally and flattened out to produce a sheet
