this won't answer your question, but i remember when they offered a 10 minute plan. anywhere outside your footprint was a $3.00/day surcharge and like $1/minute. I'm thinking it was originally like $20/month but later changed to $10/month emergency plan. That was with 360 which later became Alltel. Not original but before digital was even talked about w/ old bag phones and analog service.

cell phones first showed up in the early '80s. The whole thing was a briefcase sized device that cost around $4-$5 a minute. I think AT&T was first carrier!!!
