  1. Golf carts?

But here's a site for a company that does conversions:

  2. Anthony Electric, Baker, Detroit, Edison, Studebaker all made battery electric vehicles in the early 1900's.

These vehicles were successfully sold as town cars to upper-class customers and were often marketed as suitable vehicles for women drivers due to their clean, quiet and easy operation. Electrics did not require hand-cranking to start.

Depends on what you mean by "mass" produced

  3. The first one I think of is the Honda Hybrid, but thats a hybrid.  Part gas, part electric.

  4. Electric cars were very popular 100 years ago.  In fact they were more popular than nasty, smelly gasoline-engine cars.  They were the obvious choice for people who did not wish to employ a chauffeur to deal with such unpleasantries as constant maintenance, toxic fuel and hand-cranking the engine.

Everything changed once the electric starter was invented, and engines got more reliable, and Henry Ford's mass production brought the price down.

To the best of my knowledge no electric cars have ever been truly mass produced on assembly lines, because they either were made before mass production was invented by Henry Ford, or not enough of any one model were made.

It's not unusual for small-production automobiles to abandon the assembly line and go "old school" - the Corvette, Ferrari, Dodge Viper... custom variants like the early 80's convertibles, Firehawk  (variant of Firebird), etc.
