Question:

What was the first powered flight (excluding air baloons)?

I heard Queen Victoria saw it. But, the Wright Brothers were in 1903. She died in 1901. Please help me.

  3. I read somewhere that somebody beat the Wright brothers to the first powered flight, but they didn't get the media that the Wrights did, so no one believed it.  I don't know if I buy it, but maybe this is the story you're refering to.

  5. Henri Giffard made a flight in a steam powered airship in 1852.  Queen Victoria was very alive at this time and there were several airships that followed before her death, including the first Zeppelin, the LZ1.

  7. The Avitor Hemes Jr. flew in 1869 in Burlingame Ca. Although it carried no passengers and was not intended to it was controlled flight.  This was the first heavier than air unmanned vehicle to fly in the U.S.
