  1. 2002 at the daytona 500

  2. 02 500

  3. It was the Atlanta race in March 2002. I cringed when he said that annoying phrase and KNEW it would stick. Thanks alot Darrell, you turkey walkin' dork.

  4. i'll say it was the first race when fox jumped on the NASCAR bandwagon and say it's  the Daytona 500.

  5. i'm not sure when he first said it, but it was the name of an album by ray stevens back in 1974, which included the song "the streak." it actually also appears in songs as far back as "who put the bomp" by barry mann back in 1961.  "boogity-boogity" as a phrase supposedly dates back to the 40s, and is supposed to mean "quickly."

the story dw has supposedly told is that as a driver, he got tired of hearing his spotter or crew chief say "green, green, green" at the start of every race and wanted to hear something more original.

my grandmother, who was a cajun from southern mississippi, used to tell stories and when she'd be talking about someone running fast, she'd move her hands in front of her like they were two horses racing each other at a run and say "he was a-bookin'it bookin'it on down da road..."

  6. Sometime in 2002.
