  1. It created a united German Empire. Which had Imperial ambitions which clashed with French, British and Russian ones. It created a power in Central Europe. A vacuum not filled since the Holy Roman Empire in its height


  2. Which unification?  The one in the 1800s or the one in 1990s?

  3. The Soviets mismanaged East Germany. Reuniting would assimilate the East Germans to the West, start the process of cleaning up, push the Ruskies back and put an end to an ugly chapter in Germany's history. I should tell you that though great strides have been made, the East still lags behind the Western part. It will take many more years to achieve a balance. Divorce, suicide, alcoholism and unemployment are much more prevalent in the East.
