  1. The Confederate coast line is fairly easy. From Brownsville (TX) to (roughly) Norfolk (VA).

    The Union coastline would have been from the 49th parallel of latitude (US-Canada border between WA & BC) to San Diego in the west coast is about 1326 miles. On the East coast: From Maine (228 miles coastline) to about half of Virginia (Delmava peninsula) is about 1051miles of coastline and over 16622 miles of shoreline. You can do this by adding the coastline and shorelines on the link attached.

    I haven't added the math on the Great Lakes though.
