  1. Lily's longing for love. She wanted parental love from the deceased Deborah (who she accidentally killed and feels guilty about it) and from T. Ray (who abuses his daughter). Rosaleen is more of a best friend than a stand-in parent. Eventually, Lily discovers that a group of motherly Tiburon women love her, that she loves Rosaleen, that she loves Zach, and that there is love within herself.
