I don't know about "exciting", but 2006 was the most devastating for sure.

Barbaro was awesome in 2006, but the most exciting finish is the 2005 Derby,  Giacomo placed first in a three horse finish.  Go to YouTube and check it out...Tom Durkin's call is awesome.

I thought the year Giacomo won was exciting (2005), because he was the first horse in years to win who wasn't ahead at the eighth pole.  Plus the payout was BIG and I had a couple bucks on him.

(Barbaro broke down in the Preakness and won the Derby). My personal preference is the 2004 Derby when Smarty Jones won (at 4-1).

But, beyond a doubt, the most exciting triple crown race was the 2005 Preakness when Afleet Alex was almost knocked down in the stretch but recovered to destroy the field.

2004 was my first Derby that I got to attend, and I found it very exciting when Smarty Jones won. I also loved the 2006 Derby when Barbaro won.The Preakness was devastating that year but the Derby was great.

You have to have respect for Barbaro's runaway in the Derby.  But for which race was the most exciting, I'd say Funny Cide in 2003.  It was quite a race between him and Empire Maker until the 16th pole when Empire Maker started falling back a bit.

Joe, Afleet Alex almost fell in the stretch of the Preakness.  However, his Derby run was a good race too... he had the lead with a few yards to go, but Closing Argument came back at him and Giacomo came flying up the outside to nab them both at the wire.
