I'm thinking its the invasion of Georgia, but I might have forgotten something huge...

btw, I'm not asking you to do my homework for me, I just need to find an article about an event but I'm not sure which one.

While I agree that the Russia - Georgia conflict may be the most important event of the summer, the fact the most people don't know the truth of the matter is perhaps even more important.  (Is is possible for mass ignorance to be an "important event"?)

To begin with, Georgia invaded S. Ossetia, where a sizable populations of Russians live and work.  The Russian intervention was to protect their own citizens, and their Ossetian allies, rather than the military adventurism of the sort displayed by the USA when it invaded Iraq.

The importance comes from two related situations, which have far more ominous implications:

1. The American people are being deliberately lied to - mislead by political propaganda - to an end that will not serve the best interest of the vast majority of Americans, nor of the people of the world.

2. The USA is being lead by a cabal of war mongers for the benefit of war profiteers.  The US's military investment in Georgia is increasing the profits of US arms manufacturers, and creating a situation which may well lead to a highly undesirable conflict with a very nuclear potent Russia.

For Americans to falsely believe that this is an extremely dangerous situation, which is brought about by their uninformed concent, is what makes this development so incredibly important.
