  1. The Soviet Union's collapse into independent nations began early in 1985 so i would say D


  2. b) (ish) The nearest is the 1985 Polish election - the rest are way off the mark.

    Although I think that the Soviet decision NOT to invade Poland when clearly Solidarity was becoming a political force was a major breakthrough.
