I posted a question a week ago regarding the name and author of a novel and I must have accidentally chose an answer that was incorrect. So I'll post it again...
It was not Macbeth because it was not a play and the time-line in which the novel took place was late-1800's to early-1900's. I'm not sure when it was written. Shakespeare died in 1616. Here is my original post:
"The book takes place in Victorian England, I believe. The main character is attending a seance and, I believe, witnesses the participants murdered by some form. The character escapes and meets some man who seems to know the characteristics of the murderers and for whom they are servicing.
The main antagonist is the brother of the that man. He is especially evil in that he spent his early years stalking and raping women. He somehow learns to survive on a few hours sleep and uses the night to do his evil deeds. He possesses an extreme Oedipus complex in that he rapes his mother while his father is forced to watch and then burns them alive.
The rest of the story revolves around the main character and the protagonist evading the evil brother. I can't remember the title or the author of this novel, nor can I remember further details.
Please help! I remember loving this gothic mystery"
