What was the name of a drinking establishment in Turkey in the mid eighteenth century?

  4. Meyhane most likely. According to Google, Nedim (who lived in early 18th century, almost there :) ) wrote a poem that has the following lines:

    Meyhane mukassi görünür taşradan amma

    Bir başka ferah, bir başka letafet var içinde

    Also, Mehmet Akif wrote a poem titled 'Meyhane', but he is from late 19th century/early 20th century.

  6. it was and is meyhane. We still use the word meyhane.

    "mey" means any alcoholic drink, but most likely wine. The word is not Turkish in origin though, it may be farsi.

    "hane" means house, so it is something like wine house
