Hi there, strange question I know! I had a garden toy when I was a kid (late 80's) and it was a load of (like 30 or 40) hollow red poles (each about a metre long and 10cm or so thick), you could connect them with a series of black corners bits, in L, T, I, or Y shapes, so you could carry on the structure in any direction. There were also a series of square panels which you could use to fill in the side (if you made a square with the red poles and joints). Also, due to being in the army, my parents were stationed in Germany for most of my childhood, so it might be a German thing! Thanks in advance!

  1. My children had something similar called Pipeworks (American made bought from Childrens World in Cricklewood) which was white tubes, grey connecters and red panels (for slides/seats/dens). I remember the red better quality sets but cannot remember what they were called. My children adored their set but insisted it stayed erected indoors for weeks, you could also pinch your fingers when pushing tubes together if you weren't careful.

  2. It's called red painted scaffolding...and it's highly dangerous for kids...

  3. There were also large outdoorsTinkertoy sets in the 80's that matched this description.

  4. It's called Quadro, it is German but is now available in the UK (although it's much cheaper on E-bay). You can get a mini-quadro kit to go with the big kit so you can design your model in minature on a rainy day!
