Did you enjoy it? Yes! Mine was "Jezebel" with Bette Davis and Henry Fonda. I'm only in my 50's, however, I grew up with the classics due to my Mom. She loves them still. I find myself watching Turner Classic Movie Channel. The only regret I have watching those wonderful movies is that I want to see the color of their clothes (wow, didn't they have cool designers back then?) and the flower arrangements were glorious! The men were so, so, *drools* ;0)

love ya

  1. Well, I guess I can't count The Wizard of Oz because of the change to technicolor when Dorothy gets to Munchkin Land. I'm sure I saw lots when I was a kid, but the first one that comes to mind is Psycho.  I like Hitchcock, so I'd have to add The Birds, Rope and Rear Window.  Oh, and To Kill A Mockingbird!

In modern times, there's Schindler's List...but maybe it doesn't count because of the occasional use of the color red?

My son and I have enjoyed watching TCM together.  He's 22 but loves old films.

  2. Most flicks were B/W when I first went to the movies. Only very big productions had color.

  3. Officially, the first B&W movie was "Young Frankenstein" by Mel Brooks. Yes, I'm that young. But the best Classic B&W film I have seen was "Hush Hush, Sweet Charlotte" where this woman chops this guy up and gets away with it.

  4. "The Last Picture Show" with Ben Johnson!!!  Loved it!!

  5. " The Longest Day", roughly 1958 at Fort Meyers,VA. Admission was twenty-five cents.

  6. Movie:The Incredible Shrinking Man-I think is the title. A man and woman are shrunk and caught inside the basement. The spider is gigantic. Now I have pet Tarantulas but that movie gave me nightmares for years and of course- Arachnophobia.

  7. On The Good Ship Lolly Pop.   Shirley Temple, my mother and her best friend dressed me and my friend like Shirley Temple.  I had dark natural curly curly hair she had long blond hair so her mother made her hair curly by having these rag things in her hair.  So humiliating I was such a tom boy even at age four.

I must admit, secretly I liked to look at the pictures they took of us, adorable, but I also  thought I looked like a sissy by the time I was eight and of course my male cousins laughed at the pictures, the brats.

When I was seven I could go to the movies with my friends by myself every Sat. to see The Lone Ranger.  Very small town.  The theater was only eight short  blocks away, downtown was ony two blocks long and only on one side, nothing on the other side, but by golly we had a theatre.

  8. The one that stands out in my mind was, "The Scarlet Empress" starring Marlene Dietrich.  I love it, it was kind of over the top! Yes, those old movies had beautiful stars(of both sexes!) and gorgeous clothes.  The best "clothes" movie is "My Man Godfrey" starring Carole Lombard.  The movie was made in 1936 and everything she wore could still be worn today.  They understood the meaning of "timeless" back then.

  9. My favorite is and will always be "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" with Sidney Portier.

  10. We didn't get a color TV until around 1965 so most of what I watched was black and white in my "formative years" I am sure I watched a lot of older movies but one that I remember easiest was a black and white film made in the 1940's. Called "The Day the Earth Stood STill"

As a kid, I practiced to language used to keep the huge killer robot from getting you. " Klatu Barata Niktu" or something to that affect. Was a scary movie at that time. Gort was the big alien robot. Think the male star was Alex Remey?

  11. I love Black and White Movies

Turner Classic Movie is the Best

I can't remember which one was the first one I saw but it may have been

    Great Gatsby in school

    or

    To Kill a Mockingbird maybe

Breakfast at Tiffany's is a great one

Also, this one but not sure of the name ~ based on a musician who married this lady but then had to go to war and was killed in a crash around Christmas time ~ sry can't remember name but I love that movie too

  12. The one that comes to mind is Village of the Damned i was 4 or 5 so it was around 60.

  13. Saw lots of b/w movies on TV - can't remember my first at the theater . . .but the first color one was downtown at the Albee Theater. . .Bambi . . .I was only 4 or 5 and was enthralled ! !

  14. The Maltese Falcon staring Humphrey Bogart and Peter Lorre - and I have watched it many times since.  Love TCM and old movies.

  15. When I was 9, I was at a friend's sleep over birthday party and her parent's played "Nosferatu". I was genuinely creeped out!

  16. It was either "Rebecca" or "Blondie on a Budget", 1940.    My mother was a true movie fan and she took my older sister and me  to the movies from an early age.   I have "Rebecca" in my video collection.  It is one of my favorites of classic black and white movies.  Joan Fontaine is also another actress I have admired over the years.

  17. Miracle on 34th Street, I would venture to say.

    (As a rerun)

  18. I can't recall. We watched the only TV set on our street and, of course, it was B/W.

  19. All's Quiet On The Western Front

  20. I know it was a Shirley Temple Movie, but I just don't remember which one, there were so many of her.

  21. When I was about 8 years old, my dad took me to see Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho at the movie theatre. I'm sure i saw plenty on t.v., but this one sticks out in my mind the most cause it was just me and "My Dad". We both liked horror and Sci- Fi flicks.

  22. Maybe it was the 3 Stooges or some cowboy and Indian movie.

  23. It's a wonderful life.

  24. When I was old enough to pay attention to movies most were still in black and white.  This was the late 40s and I have no idea what the first one would have been.  I'm big on the classics too.  Now Voyager is an all time favorite.  I too love the clothes and the hair styles.
