Was undefeated going into the Derby then at the Preakness, the dream of the winning the Triple Crown was shattered, I mean literally... shattered...

Barbaro. He was put down last year because his leg developed a bad infection. Poor thing.

It was Barbaro. It broke his leg while he was running the Preakness Stakes.

Barbaro shattered his leg at the Preakness. His owners ( The Jackson's) tried everything to save his life. Barbaro spent 8 months in the ICU at U Penn's New Bolton Center. He was finally euthanized January 29, 2007 after developing laminitis in his front legs.
