    Nope, the second US Open, which took place in 1896, was won by Scotsman James Foulis. In fact, there wasn't an American winner of the tournament until 1910, when John McDermott clinched victory; before that, the Scots had dominated with eight different winners, including Willie Anderson, who won three in a row between 1903 and 1905, having earlier won his first in 1901.
