  1. Being totally pedantic, nobody collected tickets on the old 'locomotives' as the only people there were the crew who didn't need tickets to ride! The locomotive pulled a 'train' which is where the passengers sat and where tickets were collected, by a conductor in the USA and by a 'ticket collector' in the UK

  2. Conductor.

  3. They were called ticket inspectors. As well as collecting the tickets they had to inspect them to ensure they were valid.

  4. conductor.

On the highways he's now known as a trooper and he gives the tickets.  My how times have changed.

  5. in uk the guard checks tickets most of the time that if the train got a gaurd lot of trains only have driver now but there are traveling ticket inspectors about the network
