What was the point of learning cursive writing?

It helps you write faster, when your taking notes in college, because you don't have to lift your hand of the paper.

Also it makes your handwriting seem more adult, respectable.

I home schooled my kids and one of the most important reasons for learning to write cursive is to better understand how to READ cursive.  It is always your option on whether to use cursive, but being able to understand what others write is not always your option.  Also, writing cursive can be a time saver for most people.  There will be times in your life where being able to write as fast as you can will be important (college) and cursive writing can help get you through those times.
