What was the political and social events of the renaissance period?

It was, in a way, the 2nd bite from the tree of knowledge of good an evil.  Man returned to Man to decided what he believed to be true, it was a time of exploding art, science, and math.  We were rediscovering how to build things.

The problem was that in trying to preserve spiritual truth of the past, the ways of the past were also preserved (which is unnecessary, yet a mistake we still make today).  So in the attempt to though off the old ways much of the old truth was lost also
