  1. lots and lots of fighting between people who think they're entitled to somthing their not.


  2. There was no clear method of deciding who would be the next emperor . In many cases , legions fought each other to get their commander in the emperor's chair .

    Most emperors had short lives after becoming emperor . Almost all were relieved of their office by way of the stiletto .

  3. most of them somehow managed not to have children to pass the throne to; there are a lot of stepsons, great-nephews, etc., inheriting the title where the legions didn't put someone on.
