What was the purpouse of making red seal notes?

I have inherited plenty of these notes and they were just a single dollar at the time, ( I guess ) . I just like to know why it has a red seal instead of original green.

Not sure, but, could those have been "Script"?

Notes were issued to workers in some industries in lieu of money, during the depression, as companies were short of cash.

These were called "script" and were accepted by stores , trusting that the company would honor them and repay with cash as they received it.
