  1. I know Queen Elizabth 2nd is old but,she isn't that old.

  2. What queen?

    Where?

I don't think any queen ever went on a crusade.  And the first crusade, I'm not sure there was even a queen to speak of.

    England didn't have one.

  3. Sue is incorrect.  Eleanor of Aquitaine famously went on Crusade with her (then) husband King Louis of France.   She would later marry Henry II and become Queen of England.  Her son, Richard the Lionheart is perhaps the most famous crusader of all.

There was also Queen Melisende of Jerusalem and Melisende's granddaughter, Sibylla.

I would imagine that their daily like was similar in many ways to other Queens of the era:  days spent in the "solar" of the castle in the company of other women, reading aloud to each other from the new "romances" (like the tales of King Arthur written by Chretian de Troyes) and pursuing artistic endeavours like needlework, puntuated by the demands of running a large household (which a castle essentially was).  This would have included managing the servants, keeping track of the stores, and providing hospitality for guests.

When the men were away fighting, it would also have meant the rest of the job of the ruler of the territory, much of which was devoted to settling disputes.

  4. Eleanor of Aquitaine (1122-1204) Was the only queen that went to the crusades that I know of.  She went there with her first husband  Louis VII and was queen of France at this time. ( She later married Henry II and became Queen of England instead).  When she went to the crusades, she had her royal ladies in waiting, 300 non-noble vassals and wagons of female servants. Apparently she loved to dress up as an amazon (her ladies too). But they never fought. Honestly all she did over there was fight with her first husband  :)
