  1. One big myth was that the drugs those people were taking mad them more creative and peaceful.  The drug culture was what is has always been people just following the lead of others and being unwilling to be individuals, they just followed the crowd.

  2. The only myth I can think of is that the side for peace during the Vietnam War disrespected the veterans coming home.  It was a lie thought up by right wingers who love war and hate peace.  It never happened.  There was the allegation that peace people spat on returning veterans.  A professional historian researched the charge and found not one, not one I repeat, single incident, but it made great press for the right wing.  So they got their Iraq War.  Cheney got 5 student deferrments, Limbaugh got a 4f based on a zit on his ***--real brave guys who never lifted a finger to help this country but felt qualified to trash the people who tried to save the 58,000 lives needlessly lost in Vietnam.

  3. The Myth is that the 1960's was the greatest time to live,in a material/philosophical sense.

As for material wealth, unemployment was low...but it hurt a lot more, because there was little in the way of social programs.  (Eg, hard to get unemployment insurance...only improved until late in the sixties)  For many people, the wealth of the time passed them by, due to racism - There was very little to protect people from this, in the workplace.

As for a philosophical sense, the 60s are portrayed as a time of peace and free love (way before stds were common).

But, there was little freedom of expression.  Without an internet, it was very easy for big interests to control the media. Protesters were also countered with brutal violence.

(Look up the Kent State massacre, where student protesters were killed in Ohio.)  Civil rights for minorities were eventually increased, but it was a hard, hard path; and many say much here still needs to be done.
