What was the relationship between James 1 and Henry VIII?

Seems so complicated. I know that James 1 became king after Elisabeth, but what was the relationship between Henry and James? Thank you for your help

James' mother (Mary Queen of Scots) was a descendant from Henry VIII sister Mary who married one of the Scottish kings also called James.....So Henry was Mary Queen of Scots uncle

Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, was the mother of James I and cousin to Queen Elizabeth. Mary of Scots is not to be confused with "Bloody" Mary, Elizabeth's half sister, having the same father, Henry VIII.

Henry the VIII chose to marry his NEPHEW, James V of Scotland, thus creating a French-Scottish alliance along Henry's troublesome northern border.

Moriarty is the one that is right. James was most certainly not the son of Hnery VIII first daughter. The idea they were g*y lovers made me laugh though, but again that was wrong (obviously).

Henry VIII had many wives because none of them gave him a son.  Elizabeth was the daughter of Anne Boelyn and Henry the VIII.  She succeeded her half-sister Mary, who is the mother of James I.

Margaret Tudor, one of Henry's sisters, married the Scottish King James IV and produced the next Scots monarch James V. He in turn (after a war with his uncle Henry) produced the next in line to the Scottish throne, Mary (Queen of Scots).
