What was the role of the United Nations in promoting democracy?

Democracy seems to have little effect in S****y countries.

None I hope. It was not intended to be promoting one style of government or interfering in anybody's internal politics.

It was meant to be a way of preventing another world war by provide the world with a place to discuss their problems openly.

It has not worked out that way and hit its lowest point now by allowing USA to wage a war of aggression and call it a war of pre-emptive defence.

Unless of course you mean the American version of Democracy which means everybody serving American business interests, and in that case it has been a very useful tool for bullying small countries.

united nations' main role is to promote democracy and if you look at the world since the beginning of the creation of the UN, more and more countries have become demoractic...

for example the war on Iraq was under supervision of the UN and also in the Rwanda Genocide, it was the UN which sent its army to create peace and democracy

The particular form of governance is transparent to UN which is being run on democratic lines itself, with the glaring exception of Security council. It always set that the signatory should 'represent' the people as criterion for membership. Beyond that it never displayed any particular bias to democracy.

Was?? Are you speaking in general terms, or is there a specific thing you want to know.  The United Nations as a body has not be instrumental in promoting much of anything lately.  The UN was designed to be of service to the people of the world, and in some instances it has been successful, however, lately, they are not doing much to help anything at all!
