I hope you have a lot of paper. The '90s, particularly the first 5 years were one of the most politically and socially eventful periods any nation has ever known. Ultra-Major governmental reform and redistribution of political power. The stakes were higher than the oppressive outgoing Apartheid had imagined. Suddenly social welfare, AIDS, civil rights for blacks and women, education, sanitation, an idealistic constitution (employed in '96 after a long period of development)...an endless list of issues previously ignored needed addressing.

Throw in environmental damage from the prior regime, political connections with nations that had to be cut and the new ones needed to be stablished, industry, law enforcement, the ousting of a major drug and contraband hub and you have a good start.

Good Luck, stick to it, I would love to read an all encompassing study of that period.
