  1. row boat

  2. Read Rafaels Sabbatini's book about Captain Blood. Pirates there used canoes in one operation.

But this is exclusion. So i will go for sloop.

  3. the row boat

  4. Probably a sloop.

  5. Argggggghhhhhhhh. Aye matey, I once used a canoe to steal a beer from my neighbors dock.

  6. look up a copy of Howard Pyle's painting "Attack on a Galleon"....Pyle did lots of paintings of Pirates, and in this you will see pirates could take as small as a20 foot boat out a few miles from shore and attack the unwary.

Today's pirates off Somalia "honor that tradition" by using a 24 foot Swedish designed outboard motor powered boat called the Boghammer; originally designed for 3rd world fisherman it will carry twenty guys miles out to sea to board and capture merchant ships.....if the US and Royal Navies, honoring their own 200 year old tradition, don't find them first.
