  4. the British "Sopwith Camel" in WW1.  it was battle tried & tested along with German planes of similar vintage long before our allies turned up!

  7. In 1908 the US Army Purchased an aircraft from the Wright Brothers for testing purposes.

    It was not the original aircraft, but of similar and improved design.
