What was the worst NHL game you have ever attended?

I once received tickets just one row up from the ice for a Lightning game in which the team played the Ottawa Senators. (Some of the regs might remember this story) The ticket included a large buffet before and during the game and was conveniently located beside the visiting teams locker room. So I got some great pictures of Chris Neil (an oxymoron) and stood within a foot of Jason Spezza. I also got with a few inches of the color guard on its way out to the rink while on my way to the seat. The Lightning, however, didn't get the message. The Bolts lost 8-2.

  1. i honestly don't think i've been to any bad games. every game i've been to the sharks won, i don't go to alot of games which is sad but i live 2 & a half hours away from san jose now. but the last time i went to a game was the year after the lockout in october of 2005.

omgg that game when they lost 7-1 i didnt see that game cuz i think i worked that night & i had recorded it on my tivo but when i saw the score i didnt bother to watch but that was probably the worst game all year.

    and about the whole die-hard fans thing, you are right about that, there are way many die-hard fans now then there used to be. (;

  2. I got tickets for free and the seats were close to the ice, the closest i have been, and i had to sit next to a loud person who split beer on me and the blues lost to the red wings 5-0.

  3. I went to Buffalo from Canada and went to see a Buffalo Sabres VS Philadelphia Flyers game..

I never had a jersey, so a friend let me wear his other jersey.. a Philadelphia Flyers jersey.

It was all great until we got into the arena. We walked down the steps to get to our seat and then it happened...

All the fans started booing me and telling me I sucked and that I should leave! I WAS ONLY 8 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME! I staarted to cry. They were so mean to me.

That's the worst time I've ever had at a NHL game.

  4. 2001 at the Shark Tank (then known as the San Jose Arena because they didn't have as many "die-hard" fans then as they have now) .. spent over $100 each / ticket for my then-girlfriend and I .. this was before Thedoore became a star and the Sharks won 6-2 the best seats I ever had and to be embarassed like that wait it gets worse .. we left the car in San Francisco even though we worked in Palo Alto .. missed the last train back to SF (by less than a minute .. not even Carl Lewis or Marian Gaborik could have caught up to it), and after waiting for close to an hour, took a cab back up to the city, about 40 miles at night. The whole evening cost about $300 (and I was making $10/hr)

The taunting from so-called Sharks fans (they had few die-hards at the time) was the icing on the cake.

  5. My personal worst was this year's Tampa v. Calgary game, the first played at the Forum since Game 7.

There was outstanding crowd support, and I was so excited to see it, especially after how much that series meant to me. The first period was super intense, and so exciting to watch. But by the end, the Lightning started to lose momentum (as they sadly did so many times in the third period this season), and by the time the ninth goal got scored (we had 6), I cried.

    Rough, rough day.

  6. CBJ vs LA KINGS

I had Center Ice Lounge tickets, which were over a hundo each.I took my wife, dad, and oldest son.

The Jackets got down early and often. The final was like 5-1.I remember it so well too.The next day they traded for Sergei Fedorov. They traded Marchant-Wright-and Beauchemin.

It kind of saved McClean for a little while, but in the end He got fired too. That game was pathetic. Its burned into my mind.

  7. I go to the Xcel Energy Center in the State of Hockey for my games.  Every game is heaven.

  8. New York Rangers VS. Toronto Maple Leafs. (2008)

You would think New York would lose. Right? Nope, they won against the Leafs. 6-0. That was one of the boring hockey games in Canadian history. (well at least for me).

                    AND

Toronto Maple Leafs VS. Anaheim Ducks (2008)

I knew Anaheim would win because they are a very built team(no lie). The score of that game was 0-5

  9. Game 7, Stanley Cup Playoffs. Western Conference Quarterfinals San Jose vs Detroit. San Jose upsets RW's at the Joe, ending another great regular season and chance for another cup.

  10. This year I got tickets to see The Penguins vs The Wings at the Joe,

Game 2 of this years playoffs and the Pens lost 3-0.

I was upset cause I blew so much money away for these tickets and it was a huge waste of money!

It was the worst game I have been to so far.

  11. Hmmm, I'm going to have to say Dec 29th this year. Penguins/Sabres.

I got my brand new Winter Classic Crosby jersey an hour before the game started. Penguins won 2-0. Conklin got a shutout. (But it was still horrible)

-I missed Colby Armstrong's goal because some fat lady stood up and got in my way.

-My braces were killing me, and I had to wear a bite plate in my mouth that caused me to talk with a lisp.

-I got made fun of by some random person for practically worshipping Ty Conklin.

    -I was not feeling good.

    -I almost puked 5 times.

-I hadn't ate a thing all day, so I bought a pretzel. The pretzel was nasty, and then I accidently dropped it on the ground so I couldnt eat it anyways.

-OH! And the creepy 11 year old boys in front of me trying to talk to me the whole game. And the one always tried to give me a high five....and ew. I thought they were going to give me one of their stupid little diseases.

Technically it was the best/worst game ever. I honestly have worshipped Ty Conklin for the past 5 years and to see him get a shutout was a dream come true, though. But I was so sick and out of it all night.

  12. The worst game i attended wasn't all that bad. It was the first game of the season and the canes were playing montreal. My dad had payed alot of money for good seats and they were right behind the canadians. So i was really excited about it but as the game started we realized that we couldn't see hardly anything because the trainer kept walking in front of us and the sticks and this pole was blocking the view of the goal. Luckly i had a little bit better view than my dad but it was frustrating having to look up at the jumbo tron if i couldn't see because my neck started to hurt. And then to add on the hurricanes lost in overtime.

  13. Sharks vs Buffalo 12/8/08 i was there

Sharks took a 1-0 lead and ended up losing 7-1

  14. Game in Panthers Original arena. The Miami Arena. They played the Hawks and lost 10-4. I stayed to the very end. I wound up having some loser spill his salsa down my leg and it was all over the leg of my pants. I had to walk about five blocks to my car with salsa all over me and then an hours plus drive home reeking of salsa. Not to mention on the way home someone threw a rock off an over pass and it went through my car windshield. Not a real good night all around .

  15. when I first started dating my wife over twenty years ago she was a die hard Red Sox-Celtics girl. Me being a big B's fan I took her to the Garden to see the Bruins on one of our first dates. They got schmucked by the Nordiques like 10 to 1.no thanks to them we are still together!

  16. Everyone has already heard the story of when some idiot puked on my feet while I was walking on the stairs to my seat, holding two beers...and I was wearing flip-flops.

I think everyone has heard the story when the Toronto fan sneezed in my face after the game and then I kicked him (but that wasn't too bad, because I received free Leafs make-up beer).

Hmmmm, the only other game I can think of that really sucked was, once I got some really crappy spur-of-the-moment nosebleeds from a friend of mine...they were like one row away from the rafters...the sort of seats where, by the time you get to them...you need another beer.  I was seated in the middle of a Middle School field trip from South Florida.  ALL GAME LONG, I had to listen to crackling puberty voices squealing, "Lets go Panthers!" over and over and over.  They thought it was cute to have a contest of sorts, to see whom could scream it the loudest.  After 2nd intermission, the Lightning were losing so bad, the the arena started to clear a bit, so I ended up moving to another section.

That night I could still hear those kids screaming in my brain....little brats, lol.

Edit:  Also, as you may know...I never miss a live Montreal vs Tampa game.  The first match up last season I parked in that parking lot that was once dirt, across from the Marriott in downtown (The one next to the newer parking garage)...and some SOB broke into my car and stole ALL of my CDs.  I was pretty ticked off, because my music means SO much to me, and some of the stuff in my CD notebook will never be able to be replaced...yep, that may have been one of the worst nights.

  17. November 28, 1984.

I had tickets to see Montreal at Detroit, but my main motivation was to see Guy Lafleur one last time before he retired.

Unfortunately, he retired early on November 26. The game itself was a lackluster 3-3 tie.

  18. this year game 5 of the finals wings and pens.. im a huge wings fan and i was soo excited because they were 34 sec away from winnning the cup and me being there to see it.. thn they scored and i was ok because i was excited for overtime... they ended up loosing and i was pissed. it may seem bad now but they next day i learned tht this guy my mom knows who is best friends with pavel datsyuk had wristbands for me and my freind and the rest of the ppl we were with (mom my bro my dad and my bros wife me and my friend) to go onto the ice with the players. i was soo pissed and sad i started to cry no joke.. its funny to see a 17 year old boy cry over sumtin lol but i believe i had a very good reason to be crying

  19. Every game the Sharks lost!

    Ok, here's one.

Minnesota Wild/Sharks game in 2006. Sharks lost 4-1.

  20. So i'm sitting in Dome just enjoying a very tight game VS the Canucks. Until some fat idiot (wearing a nucks jersey)  keeps talking about how the Flames suck. This guy wouldn't watch the game! He just kept talking and talking. He kept saying "Hahaha Iginla can't even play good, what a crappy player."Obviously I just had to say something back("And Naslund  is better than Iginla?*Uncontrollable laughter*.. Oh my god, your kidding right?!") Then,he just kept bickering and bickering about how people in high school are immature and don't know anything about hockey.  It sucks though, because the Flames lost that game.

  21. The Ice Bowl was a bit disappointing, considering the sucky end of it, but it was a cool experience to have once. The last Sabres/Leafs game this year would have sucked my hypothetical left nut. If it wasn't for the fact that our hotel had a cheap bar and there was whoopie involved, it would have ruined my whole weekend ...wonk woooonk.

  22. No such thing as a bad seat at the ACC. I was there at the 8-0 shellacking of the Leafs by the Panthers, and even that game was great because, by the end, I, 1) it was embarrassing enough for Leafs management to realize that they have a crappy product out, 2a) managed to get a whole lot of venting done about said management, 2b) got kicked out of the ACC while venting about said management during a live post-game show for LeafsTV. Something about disrupting the broadcast, but had a ton of fun doing so (mostly because I got a chance to be on the other side of ejections).

So, by default, it has to be the game I went to at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa. Horrible seating, cramped, felt like I was going to tip over every time I walked to the aisle, and got some wierd lady behind us whispering, "shoot, shoot, shoot" every time the Sens had the puck....even in their own zone.

  23. Last year I got second row tickets to a Caps game and it was right OV but never saw anypart of the game because of the stupid coaches

  24. Calgary at NYR, a year before the lockout?

Dunham was doing so badly, they pulled him after one and put in Markkanen (I believe).

Markkanen did so badly, they pulled HIM, and put dunham back in after two.

In the 3rd, Calgary dumps a puck in... dunham goes behind the net to play it, it winds up bouncing off the boards and into the net.

Final score... 5-0 Calgary.  We didn't have one sustained effort all night.  Awful.  who pulls their goalie twice in a game??

EDIT:  also... LAK at NYR this year... my dad had gotten me the tickets for chanukah, then during the game (which we lost, 4-2 or 5-2) I had food poisoning, so I was really sensitive to light (i.e. looking at white ice) and sound (i.e. announcements and fans).  I had to leave at the beginning of the third, I felt so bad for my dad but I almost threw up on the subway back home... it was just awful.

  25. Well I have to have gone to an NHL game to actually answer this question. I have, however gone to an OHL game before. It was a  Brampton Battalion game and it was before I started watching hockey. I was in grade 4 and got tickets for free since I was in the school choir and we were singing the national anthem. So we sang, and me and my dad watched about half the game until the score was 3-1 I believe. Then my dad was like we know whose gonna win, let's go home. So I had to leave the game halfway.

anaheimducksfan30: That game was at the end of 2007, December 29th I believe and the final score was 6-1 not 6-0 but yes, that game was incredibly boring.

  26. Glen Hanlon's last game 5-1 loss to atlanta ( i had free tickets to that game so at least we didnt have to pay)  IT was horrible, the crowd was small and booed the caps and constantly chanted "Fire Hanlon!"  It was so ackward because the verizon center entertainment team tried to fire up the crowd but nobody was buyin it.  It was a horrible feeling and after that game i knew, i just knew hanlon was out.  That night i even dreamed waking up and seeing the headline "Caps fire hanlon, promote Bruce Boudreau from hershey" and it came true thank God.  THat was my only loss this year, i went to 10 games this year (2 of which were in the playoffs) and that was the only game they lost while i was present.
