Like...Just a stupid play that ended up meaning a loss for that players team.

Example: Alexei Kovalev in 2004

  1. Steve Smith scoring on his own team with Edmonton in game 7 against Calgary.

  2. its got to be the patrick stefan incident (a.k.a. dallas stars player who screwed up)

it was a game losing play because the oilers got the puck and tied the game to demoralize the stars therefore creating an overtime loss for the stars.

  3. The two guys above me failed to realize that was not a game losing performance, but I like the one you posted, I think that was the worst.

  4. Oh, I'd have to give the Human Pylon (Bryan McCabe) his dues for his beautiful game-winner for Buffalo last October.  If only he was wearing a Sabres sweater that night.

  5. http://youtube.com/watch?v=2DbP7wqCwq8 hands down steve smith

  6. everyone else is giving NHL examples, i will give a first hand one.

I was starting in net against a team called the junior scots out of Dallas. it was an early morning game probably puck drop 7 a.m. each team had maybe 35 shtos on net 0-0 game. 2 minutes left in the third, one of my teammates takes a shot from the point and absolutly whiffs, the puck is floating end over end toward the net with a rainbow arch, another one of my teammates then pulls the goalies glove hand down with his stick as we watch the puck go in. Refs didnt even see it.

    we all know this one

  8. I got to agree with your bartender. That own goal lost them series.  Yeah Patrick Stefan's play was stupid but it did not result in a loss. The Stars won in OT.

  9. Toronto vs Carolina some time in december. The leafs are actully up  2-0 with less than 2 mins to go. Carolina pulls there goalie,Ponikarovsky gets the puch just before Carolina blue line and for some reson he decides to skate it in instread of shooting at the empty net when i think it was Stillman steals the puck of Ponikarovsky and scores. carolina enede up tieing it with 30 seconds left and won in overtime.

  10. I think a couple of years ago a Dallas Star player was on a breakaway with an empty net and he hit the post or over skated and Vancouver went down the rest of the length of the ice and tied it and eventually won it in overtime....that was pretty bad...

Sorry it was Edmonton...the guy above me beat me to it....well played sir :)

I might also go with Brodeur's flop in the 03 finals against the ducks.  In game 3 we had just tied the game 1-1 and then a Duck cleared the puck and he dropped his stick right as it came to him.  It took the unluckiest riccochet off his stick through his legs and in the net.  We lost that game and it changed the whole series.  We could have won in 5 or 6 but it went 7 because that play was such a big momentum shift

  11. The McCabe play- trying to knock the puck into the corner from the crease, in overtime, and sending it in the net.

Or Conklin playing the puck behind the net and Brind'Amour taking it in game one of the SCF in 2006. That was pretty bad.

  12. One of the worst I've seen on T.V. this year was when it was the Hawks against the Kings. We were losing, so we went with empty net. All of a sudden the Kings score like 5 goals and we lose 9-2. It sucked. AND, the day before, they came to the United Center and they beat us 3-2! It was REALLY bad.
