  1. How quickly people forget about Trent McCleary's life-threatening throat injury from blocking a shot against the Flyers ..

  2. I agree Masterton was the worst sounding, I have never actually saw it.

Tim Horton's car crash for the worst off ice tragedy ever.

As for the worst I've seen, it has to be Zednick.

  3. For me it was Jiri Fischer dieing behind the bench in 05, luckily he was brought back to life by medical staff and a defibrillator. I don't remember how long it was he had no pulse but I think it was about a minute.

  4. The death of Brittany Cecil in Columbus. I felt bad for everyone  involved.

  5. I think that the Zednick was probably the only cited incident that any of us saw.

The Brittany Cecil accident was probably the worst that happened.

I remember when Billy B's plane was lost. I saw Tim's car the day after his accident and knew Ace Bailey. But the death of a young girl watching a game was a true tragedy.

  6. TBL, is right!!!!  King Clancy did not get called for a penalty, and on the next face-off, Shore took down Bailey from behind, fracturing his skull and ending the career of a NHL great icon.  The next year they had a tribute game for Bailey, which soon became the NHL All Star games.

  7. the 9/11 attacks took away two of the best NHL scouts.

  8. The Ace Bailey incident quickly comes to mind. In fact, Bailey hit his head so hard on the ice that a priest in attendance gave him last rites. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NHL_All-Sta...

  9. Though both Richard Zednick's and Clint Malarchuk's injuries looked far worse, Masterson's death was probably the most grievous on ice tragedy, but could have been prevented had he been wearing a helmet. If you extend it to all of hockey however, I'd add two more events.

The the limo crash in 1997 that put Vladimir Konstantinov into a 5 week coma, ending his career with severe brain damage and the death of 13 year old Brittanie Cecil in 2002 (who was killed by a puck at a game between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Calgary Flames) were just as tragic as Masterson's death in Minnesota.

  10. sean avery leaving the rangers

  11. A tragedy for me was when Ryan Malone left the Penguins in July.

But a tragedy for ANYONE would have to be when Mario Lemieux was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma... I'm just thankful he survived and is now living healthy.

  12. I'm going to be different and say Bill Barilko. He vanished while on a plane ride with his dentist. On a side note, who socializes with their dentist?

  13. anytime that the Rangers beat the Devils, especially this past playoff season!! It is just not right :-(

As for all of these truly devastating tragedies I was not yet a hockey fan to know about them but now i plan to look into them

  14. The Avalanche and the Ducks winning the Stanley Cup are the worst tragedies I can think of.
