Question:

What was there before there was nothing?

This is bit of an oxymoron.

But has anyone heard a theory of pre-big bang stuff? It is a strange question.

Please, please, please do not say God- you are placing a new issue in of where did God come from... nothing can come from nothing, but obviously at some point it did.

Doesn't that just mess with your head?

I personally don't think we will ever know where the two random atoms came from that started the big bang... evolution etc.

  1. there was never nothing because even nothing is something.

    ohhhh zing!

  2. before nothing there was nothing, and before nothing before nothing of nothing, there was no-thing/no-nothing....contemplate on this, but with open mind....do not jump into any conclusions...goodluck...

  3. ALWAYS, there is something.....

    Bye

  4. You're trying too hard to make life difficult

when it doesn't even have to be.

I'll give you a list and you can peruse it

for the sake of peace of mind, perhaps?

    Eternity

    Time

    Space

    Air

    Darkness

    An idea/thought

    These were all among the first to exist;

yet, before all of that even came into

play there was only one thing here..as

there was never really a time before

there was nothing because the beginning

began with only one thing: The Word.

"In the beginning there was the word. And

    the word was God."

This might not be enough for you; however,

    it's the truth.

It never ceases to amaze me how man wants to perpetually

attempt to find out where he/she has been, when it

would better serve them to figure out as to where they

might be heading. We think too much to enjoy the simple things in life; then once we become too old and too frail,

we look back with many regrets.

Bottom line is: The automobile isn't supposed to

know where the auto-maker originated. The clothes

aren't supposed to have the schematics to their designers.

Toys don't supposed to have dominion over their toymaker.

Therefore; we aren't supposed to be smarter than God,

our Creator. Though most would argue that they are their own God.

In any event..God made us, we didn't make him. He's

in control. He's the Master. We're mere creations.

But, we often rebel that fact, then refuse to humble

    ourself and respect the Lord.

This is my philosophy..and most people will not agree with it.

I don't have a problem with that; there will be thumbs down..

because in all actuality people think that ignoring, erasing, denying and discrediting the truth will make it okay for them to continue to walk the path they've chosen without

having to face any consequences. Their mistake.

    Love, peace and joy.

  5. God Knows

  6. There was never nothing, this world is ever expanding and starting anew.

All could not have come from one bang and there are probably many large bodies far away from here that have not yet begun to form.

  7. There has always been something. But not for the reasons stated above. There has always been something because there was no time before the big bang.

Time and space are one and the same thing viewed in different ways. Ergo, when there was no space, there was no time. Asking 'what was there before' doesn't make any sense. There was no 'before'.

Conceptually it makes no sense; like the idea of a smallest particle. You imagine that you can just cut that thing in half. But these are just conceptual limitation due to our everyday experiences. In reality you can't just divide the smallest particle and you can't have a 'before' the big bang.

Caveat: This is out of my league. The nature problem is that you have to have things happen in order to go from 'nothing' to 'something' and its that little move that I think scientists are stuck on. Maybe they've got it, maybe not. Anywho, strictly speaking something had to happen so there had to be some time before the big bang but I can't explain how that's supposed to work.

  8. Our human concept of nothing is finite and strangled.

  9. There has always been something - existence is a cycle and it cycles in a way that we might regard part of the cycle to be indistinguishable from nothing but that's our failure of comprehension not any flaw in the nature of reality itself.

your two universe creating atoms they were randomly distributed and selected form amongst what selection? there has to be something for them to have come from! something always has to have been there!

May I prase your choice of philosophy over "god" and may your chosen philosophy guide your actions well.

  10. Well, the first answerer decided to "play-with-words" which is an irrelevant "mumbo jumbo" that may confuse you even more..If you want a proper answer to this question, you shouldnt pay attention to those word plays.

Do not consider nothing as an existent because that will confuse you. Nothing is simply "no-thing". Its a simple word that describes complete "emptiness".

First ultimate cause is energy and to say that energy just "popped out" into existence is just contradicting logically, because you cannot have something when you have completely "nothing".

Pure emptiness never existed, because energy was always here. To say otherwise and only nothingness existed is impossible. You think there is "before" to everything -- this is a fallacy. With your logic:

In order for A to exist, B must have existed before, and in order for C exist, D must exist before that. The cycle can go for ever, and you will realize that this is cycle of bullshit. First cause by definition is not created nor did it just "pop out".

In conclusion, there was never "nothing" and "before" when there was "nothing" doesnt make any sense because even time didnt exist and logically speaking, its contradicting.

  11. there cannot be an answer for every single thing

some things can remain a mystery and people should try and accept the beauty of mysteries and not try to figure them all out when there really is no need to...

so lets just say that before nothing there must have been even more nothing:)

  12. pre-Nothing

  13. "... nothing can come from nothing, but obviously at some point it did."

    "OBVIOUSLY"?

It is a logical self-contradiction to claim that existence can have succeeded non-existence (the latter being an anomaly of language, for it can not be thought of and certainly not be verbalized. At best it can be described as the negation of all that is and can be).

Therefore it is more logically consistent to think of existence as always having been in one form or another.

Keep in mind though, that the mysteries of the Cosmos are not compelled to follow the flute of man's logic.

  14. Can nothing exist? If it did, wouldn't it become a something? Even in the vacuum of space there is 'something'.

The universe existed as a singularity before it expanded rapidly and became the universe we know today. Where did the singularity come from? Maybe it always existed, or maybe from the "death" of a previous universe. (See big bounce theory, multiverse, or m-theory, some similarities, but very different theories.)

But really, it is pointless to ask what happened before the big bang, because space and time itself did not exist yet. It's like trying to locate the center of the surface of the Earth
