There was a horse owned by Bob Baffert.

It was running for one of the 3 main race that this horse fell and put to sleep.

it was a cheap horse($30,000) with bad running style, but earned lots of money.

I can't remember the horse's name.

can anyone help?

  1. Smarty Jones...

    Or something.

    I was thinking Eight Bells.

  2. Thirty Slews, perhaps...

  3. Hidalgo

    or

    Seabiscuit

  4. Was it Thirty Slews in 1992?

  5. Real Quiet is alive and well -- he was a cheap horse who was trained by Baffert and won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, but you must be thinking of another horse that was put down.

  6. barbaro?

  7. Smarty Jones is alive and standing at stud at Three Chimney's Farm, Barbaro was euthanatized nearly a year after his breakdown in the Preakness Stakes and was trained by Micheal Matz, not Baffert.  Real Quiet is alive and standing at stud at Penn Ridge Farm.  Eight Belles was euthanatized on the track but she was not leading, she was trained by Larry Miller and no one could critique her running style.  Not sure which horse you are talking about, just trying to clarify for some of those that answered incorrectly.  Oh...and War Emblem also made it off the track, he was sold to a stud in Japan and they had some issues with him with fertility, not sure what happened to him after that.

  8. smart jones

  9. I think you might mean War Emblem but he's not dead.  He was a one-dimensional runner.  He always wanted to be up front, but he still won $3,491,000 total in 7 wins.

He won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness.  He stumbled coming out of the gate at the Belmont and finished eighth.  He didn't get hurt, though.

He's in Japan now as a stud horse.

War Emblem looks black (although he's actually dark brown).   Here's a picture of him:  http://www.barntowire.com/War_Emblem_at_...

  10. is it a trick question??

  11. i think you're thinking of barbaro (i hope i spelled it right) He got put down after an injury to his leg a few years ago. He fell in a race.

  12. I don't know the answer but it wasn't Smarty Jones or Barbaro.  Smarty Jones was trained by John Servis and Barbaro was trained by Michael Matz.

  13. smarty jones

  14. Thirty Slews
