  1. well, they said it enough in the last 60 laps, but the tires were being ground to the cords every 10 or so laps so nascar played it safe and called the yellows.

  2. NASCAR is turning into a bunch of pansies.  They did it for safety reasons instead of letting the teams decide when or if they needed tires.  I guess it would have been a train wreck out there if they didn't do that, but it would have been the most entertaining race ever instead of the worst.  I guess they needed Firestone tires.  Indy cars do just fine on that track.

  3. tire wear

  4. Goodyear bought "exclusive manufacturer" status in 2007 with a five year deal through 2012.  NASCAR knew they were giving Goodyear a monopoly on a platter.  Any driver of NASCAR that wonders how much their safety is worth, need only look at the dollar amount on the Goodyear check.

The monopoly enjoyed by Goodyear finally came back to bite NASCAR on the butt.  Competition is needed, especially in the tire area.  With open tire competition, folks at Goodyear know they will need to bring their best to the race or risk losing business.  Open competition does not mean requiring EVERY manufacturer to supply 2,000 tires at every race, which is exactly what led to the withdrawal of Hoosier Tire from NASCAR.  Let the race teams decide which tires they want to use, and that company be their supplier.  NASCAR doesn't mandate that everyone drive Ford, or only use parts from one manufacturer, so why should tires be treated differently?  Is NASCAR that greedy?  Is the sponsorship money more valuable than the lives and safety of their drivers?

From the other side, want proof that Goodyear doesn't care about the situation?   Try to find a comment from a Goodyear exec on the race.  Notice how they don't accept any responsibility.

  5. because they expected the tire wear to lessen as the race went on and the track "rubbered up," but it didn't. so they called the cautions all race for safety reasons.

they should call them "the death of competition cautions."

  6. Yes,  tire wear the the issue.  Now why, I can tell you since I was there all weekend with company of the Speedway Officials...

It was the COMBINATION of the new COT car's down force that they have and the diamond cut surface of the track that caused the tire wear. It was unexpected being the 1st time the COT ran here. It is called trial and error. Now they (NASCAR & Goodyear) will make the improvements to correct this almost total disaster of the Allstate 400.  Back in April the tires was wearing out in 5 laps!  With so little testing they had then, it was hard for Goodyear to over come this problem in the time they had to do it in.

  7. Nascar was helping their poster boy win.

  8. This is what NASCAR has become...crappy cars with crappy tire packages.

  9. Bad Tire Wear!

  10. There were problems with the tires. So NASCAR threw all those cautions to check tire wear.
