Can't they just come in and get tires when they need them like they always do?

  1. I'm kind of glad they did. if not then there would have been a million wrecks and any of your or my favorite drivers could have been hurt by an accident caused by someone trying to go just a little bit longer

  2. They were cautions for competition to check tire wear and it backfired...tires were down to the d**n cords every 10 LAPS and the had to throw cautions each 10 laps or so unless someone brings it out...NASCAR just kept throwing yellows thinking the tire situation was going to work itself out...but you can't hesitate and NASCAR always hesitates or they feel they can't do too much or too little...they need to get people in there who can make decisions and quick to pull the trigger.

  3. What "Evan W" said. Goodyear brought the WRONG tire for the race. Someone at Goodyear should be fired. NASCAR was forced to throw yellows every ten laps. Earnhardt & Kenseth both had tires explode EXPLODE , not go flat, after seven laps on them ! They were right rear tires !

  4. At first they tried 14 laps but after a couple hard wall hits they got together with the crew chiefs, Nascar & Goodyear and came to the conclusion that 10 laps was enough. They were hoping that the tires would put rubber down on the track and it didn't work. Wise choice on the part of Nascar. They put the drivers safety first. Sure there were a few cars pretty tore up but all the guys are fine. I agree with Super Dave that Nascar did the right thing. =o`)

  5. Way too many i heard and i missed most of the race but it must have gotten pretty old after the first 3 flags.

  6. because probably too many drivers would try to stretch it and blow their tires and cause a wreck which nascar didn't want. Not many drivers try to stretch fuel or tires when a yellow is out. Even if it's 3 laps into a run.

  7. Goodyear just brought a bad tire to Indy. They knew about the tire Friday during practice, its was shredding during it. In a way I applaud Nascar because they were just looking out for the drivers safety. I know, the race sucked but that's the last thing we as fans need is another death to one of our hero's.

Drivers safety is the reason for the cautions.

  8. I can understand one, maybe two competition cautions but I do have to agree with you by saying that after that, the teams should be responsible enough to come in and get tires when they need them.  NASCAR, in a sense, was controlling the race.

  9. well, nascar thought some teams would be pushing it too much and that would be unsafe so they decided to call all the yellows

  10. Nascar wanted the race to be safe.  Drivers couldn't last ten laps on tires.  If they hadn't thrown those cautions, there would have been plenty of cautions anyway for blown tires.  You would have had half the cars in the field in the garage.

  11. the indianapolis track has a really coarse surface and usually the rubber from the tires would kinda fill in the indentations in the track during the qualifying. (aka getting some rubber down)  because the track was wearing the tires down so much matt kenseth's (17)  right rear quarter panel was destroyed by a blown tire and the nascar offivials didnt want that to happen again the cautions were mainly used to prevent injuries to the drivers.
