  1. To be honest, at 20 I really didnt care what my credit score was. I didnt realize that 11 years later it is important for buying houses, cars, etc....If I could go back I would have been more careful about the bills I incurred and did not pay....good for you for taking your credit into consideration...

  2. I remember applying for a car loan then.  It was about 620.  now that I am a bit older, it's pushing 800 << bragging >>.

  3. I am 20 - and I have no idea.

I would assume relatively good since I have never had any issue with payments of any sort.

  4. When I was age 20, times were different (you could fill your gas tank for what a gallon costs now).  I had no credit history.  I lived at home while going to college, so I was able to pay for it with summer and part time jobs (but it took me 5 years).  For transportation I had a motorcycle or could use one of my parent's cars.

I think I got my first credit card at about age 21 ($300 limit co-signed by dad).  Bought my first used car for cash at that age ($1250).  When I graduated from college, my only debt was $200 borrowed from my dad when I moved to IL.  Sears and American Express gave me credit cards, but J.C Penney would not (because I had not lived there for a year).

Even though the name has changed (bank mergers) and my dad has passed away, that first card is still on my credit history (with much larger limit).

  5. I got my card when I was 19, but I doubt that it was low or high.  All my accounts were paid on time and in good standing.

  6. I was in college in Germany back then. Didn't know there was such a thing as a credit score, wouldn't have cared if there was. The only thing I had ever bought at that time was an old beat up VW beetle, paid cash for that.

I did overdraw my checking account a few times then too, had overdraft protection, but still.

Last time I checked it was over 800 and I work hard to keep it that way.

I just checked my credit report and all three agencies had mistakes in my personal info. Experian had 5 mistakes, wrong address, wrong age, wrong employer, wrong social security number, wrong phone number. It took me a while to get it all corrected. I was amazed that they all had my financial info right.

It's definitely a good idea to stay on top of it all.

I've been helping my son build a solid credit history since he started working.
