  1. When I was around 11 years old I played a golf game on my friend's commodore 64. Later, I got a computer and played Mean 18. There was another game my friends and I played in teams similar to Golden Tee. However, the game that really turned me on to golf was Leadbetter's Greens, published by microprose. it really made me see how golf was similar to chess, and how much strategy was involved in the game. I then bought my first clubs about 7 years ago.

  2. I was wondering why a ball that small can fly about 200 yards and more.   Considering the wind and air resistance can blow the ball to the ground.  So it was more like a physics thing for me.

  3. I bought an old 9 iron at a garage sale for a buck just to see if I could hit it.  The guy gave me a handful of golf balls and I went to the park and knocked them around.  I thought "I can do this". The next day I went to Sears, bought a set of Johnny Miller Classics (Blades), Wilson laminated woods, a putter, a cheap bag and went to the course.  I think I shot about a 120.  That was 26 years ago.  Today I play to a 2.  I love the game.

  4. couple of guys from work convinced me to go to the driving range with them after an awful day of work... so I did. After that I bought a set of clubs and my love affair has grown ever since. :)

  5. At age 11, I started to caddy.Monday was " caddy day" when we had the use of the course until noon. Rain or shine we were there at sunup and actually played 36 holes more often than not. The clubs some member gave me were increased by sporting goods store purchases . Broke 100 at end of the season, and during the 12 year stage broke 90. At 14 made the high school golf team  and have been hooked ever since.

  6. Wanted to be like Tiger lol

  7. My dad started giving me lessons at age 3. I used to have to hit a shot on a hole with my plastic club and ball, then I'd run back to the cart happy. I was told this - I have no recollection whatsoever.

  8. I get to blame my wife...

After playing competitive tennis for ~30 years (and blowing out my back, knees and shoulder), my wife bought me a set of golf clubs for my 41st birthday.  1 year later she got her first birdie - before my first = ( and now we go out as much as we can together.  On weekends, we take all three kids  out and rip it up as a fivesome as the very last group on our favorite courses.   Great thing is that the best time we have as a couple and as a family is on the course.

  9. Colleagues introduced me to golf 8 years ago.  I was bit by the golf bug since then.  I always liked it, but didn't have enough time to dedicate to it.  Since moving to Houston, I have had plenty of opportunities to play it often.

  10. A golf course opened in my area in 1960 so my dad and I went to see what a golf course was. If you've ever seen Robin Williams take on the game of golf it was kind of like that when we got home and tried to explain it to my mom. We got hooked. Go to YouTube and do a search for "robin williams on golf". It's hilarious.

  11. I swore in a bar that it was p**s easy to hit a ball and that it wasn't a REAL sport anyway, it was also only played by fat, rich jerks who would rather spend their time on a fairway than with their families.

    That was 4 years ago

I am now a poor, fat jerk who WOULD rather spend his time on a fairway (Only joking sweetie!!) and by god realising how hard that little ball is to hit.
