A couple weeks ago at a show, there was an equitation class I did where you do one jumping course and the judge announces your score, then, after everyone else has gone, the top four are called back in to another, more difficult course. It was my first class like this, and I got a score of 62 (My instructor said it was mostly because I got the wrong lead twice at the beginning of the course! Urgh!). She said "good" scores are between 70-85. Does that sound right to those of you experienced hunter/jumpers? What was your highest score in a class like this?

  1. The class you were in was probably a Mini Medal or Mini Maclay class. If you win this class you go on to the year end mini medal or maclay finals. It is very prestigous and a very big thing to win in the hunter world. There is also the CEP equitation challenge but that is not quite as prestigous. My highest score in a medals class was a 79 at my first score and a 82 as my second. I placed 2nd.

  2. Assuming you picked up the wrong lead and came back to the trot to fix it, you technically should have had an automatic 55 (counts as breaking stride)

    As far as scores go:

    Below 60:

         -Breaking stride

         -Having a rail down

-Adding or leaving out a stride

         -Refusal

    60-70:  Major mistakes

    70-75:  Noticeable mistakes

    75-80:  A couple minor mistakes

    80-85:  Very slight mistakes

85 and above: Good rounds where the score reflects the quality of the horse/rider and not so much tangible errors.

My highest score (that I can remember) was an 85 in the children's hunters during WCHR week at WEF (palm beach)

  3. ohh, well if you missed your leads twice you completely done for it
