What waste gets collected by your Local Authority?

Really interested to know how your local authority asks you to segregate your waste. I know its different throughout the UK, and want to understand how different it is. For instance mine in Crewe & Nantwich is:

Brown bin - garden waste

Grey bin - plastic bottles, cans and corrugated

Black bin - Everything else

Blue bin - Newspapers and Magazines

Also what do you think of the collection scheme?

  1. hampshire;

    fortnightly

    pay-per-(big cloth)-bag green waste

    metal, paper and grades 1 and 2 plastic all together in black bin;

    monthly

    separate glass collection in large box

    on the whole excellent service, but;

    i need a whole wheelie bin for my glass empties (oops ), and the operatives work like stink and get paid a pittance, while the contractor veiloa are making a mint.

  2. We have a bin bag for paper and card, a bin bag for plastic and cans and either a composter or a green bin for garden waste, and that is all. No bottle/glass but there are some bottle banks around (but in silly places and awkward to get to without a car!).

    I personally think our authority doesn't do enough, I would like to see a glass collection kerbside but they have recently started taking more sorts of plastics - before we could only put in limited sorts, like milk bottles. I would also like to see easier ways to dispose of small electricals, batteries etc. Any small electricals have to be taken to the council tip ourselves, but with no car it is one impossible walk!

    The other thing I would like to see is every council in the country have the same way of recycling. It is so confusing with one council segregating waste one way, the next another. I always get confused if I am at family who stay in another council district as that system is different from ours. It would be far easier if everyone was the same!

  3. There should be a bin specifically for fecal matter.

    Maybe a brown one with peanuts and corn painted on the sides.

  4. green bin -garden waste,black square tub anything recyclable,black bin the rest

  5. Merced, CA

    Blue bin - Recyclable materials (Paper, Plastic, Glass)

    Green bin - Organic waste (Grass clippings, Leaves, Branches)

    Grey bin - Garbage

    I think it's a good system, the only drawback is higher monthly collection costs.

  6. Grey bin-paper,cardboard,plastic,glass,tins

    Blue bin-garden waste

    Maroon bin- everything else

    also have a free composter from the council

    Great service-hardly have anything in my normal bin now

  7. Green bag - garden waste (costs £25 per year)

    Black bag - household waste

    Clear bag - ALL recycling except glass which isn't collected

    Scheme works well, it's simple and doesn't involve many containers

  8. Brown bin - compostible waste

    Grey bin - unrecyclable waste

    Green box No 1: provided for: plastic bottles and cans

    Green box No 2: provided for card and old directories, plus glass kept separate in a carrier bag.

    Blue bag - newspapers and magazines

    I would prefer a blue box for the newspapers and magazines because the bags easily go missing. Plus the council used to collect other plastics for recycling, such as yogurt pots but no longer do so and take bottles only. It would be great if all recyclable plastic got taken by the council for recycling. Otherwise no qualms with the scheme all in all. Plus I asked for 2 extra green boxes and they kindly provided.

  9. Puffin57 our city offers no recycling what so ever and won't let other companies come in to pick up our recycling either. They won't even let us switch companies to one that offers recycling so I think yours is doing well.

  10. we have a glass bottle bin and a cans/plastic bottles bin

    black lid wheely bin - household waste

    green lid wheely bin - card/paper

    i think this works quite well but you cant put like plastic yoghurt pots or trays in the plastic bin so it means they go to landfill.....i dont see the difference between a plastic bottle and plastic yoghurt pot...its all plasticccc
