  1. have the adults had some 'time out' together?... perhaps doing an activity such as bowling where a team can be formed may help, I've found working in preschools in the past that the odd social team based activity for the staff out of hours can help with bonding and really helps when in the working environment.

  2. Have regular meetings to share information, make sure all volunteers are welcomed and are shown where everthing is. It is useful to have a booklet for adults setting out where they can help, the behaviour policy, what to do in and emergency, the names of the paid staff and the name of the person in charge.

Treat all adults with respect whether paid or a volunteer. Ensure leaflets and notice boards can be translated for those for whom English is not their first language.

  3. Try re-wording or grammatically changing your question, are you studying childcare? Psychology?

Any adult group of colleagues would work as a team with the correct training and knowledge.

  4. Communication is the biggest factor in working as a team.  Talk to eachother in the morning when all staff are there and make a plan for the day.  If need be have a room meeting.  We usually get a room meeting every month to allow us to plan our next months themes and activities.  Any other issues can be discussed at this time as well.
