  1. I thought the idea of an independent board is definitely the way to go. Take away involvement by the clubs. Last time this happened, the criteria was changed midstream, juniors were a large part of the criteria. Easts complained, so this was taken out. As a result, Souths got shafted and Easts stayed.

Expansion is needed, obvious places would be central coast, second Brisbane side, Sunshine Coast and possibly Port Maquarie or Coffs Harbour. 20 teams, full home and away season plus finals. Forget Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, Katherine, etc. The costs involved would not justify their inclusion.

Change salary cap to allow marquee playerss as per A League (this was suggested in an earlier response by Rere) exclude local juniors from cap .(that is players who have come from juniors not just NYC).Have salary cap reduction for long term players, say 7 years of service at club or longer.Allow third party contracts.

Change some of the rules to get a more attacking less predictable game. This would be a question on its own.

  2. FINALLY A DECENT FOOTY SHOW I SHOULD ADD!

Well i see it like this,

If they don't lift the Salary cap by at least 40% then they should at least use a Marquee system like they do in the A-League where one player in a team can earn as much as they like and not count towards the cap. If we had this already, SBW would of already been earning $1M a year and wouldn't of even thought about leaving to France.

I like what Gallop said about not closing any Sydney teams, at least hes got some balls. The game has already lost its fair share of supporters due to teams folding and $140Million in reserves is easily enough to start teams in Adelaide, Central Coast and West Brisbane.

The player manager on the panel said something about extending the game to 100 minutes which is the most brilliant thing i've heard of in a while. It's no mystery how AFL get more money on their TV deals despite being second in ratings. They have longer matches with more breaks. If the NRL can bring in a change to the sub system and lower it to 6, change the format of the game and split it into 4 quarters it would give up more advertising space = money.

The Rugby Union guy had a brilliant point on how there is this myth about the richest clubs eating all the talent and winning everything if there was no cap. For 15 years Manly were the richest club in Australia but only ever won the comp ONCE in that time. That's a clear sign of how this general fear of teams reaping all the elite players and leaving the leftovers for the poorer clubs is false and should be thrown out the window.

Attendances are also up 4%, Junior participation was at 250,000 in 2004 and is at 400,000+ in 2008. The NRL still sells the most merchandise of any Australian sports competition.

I believe that they should merge all the bodies into one, let the ONE board control it.

Overall the NRL is in good hands and Rugby League has a

    great future.

  3. in the old days there are no coverage of the game on tv because there no tv.no sponsor but the crowd are huge.so it will be better to scrap all game on tv so we can all go to the game to watch and watch it live.we can even fill every venue if there are no tv coverage on tv on friday nitev and sunday arvo.

  4. join with Union and Super 14's and have a system like UK soccer leauge (relagation)as with the new rule changes for Union next year and the modified Manly vs Union in a charity modified game it will be interesting

  5. leave it as it is now there have been too many changes in the nrl over the years if they want change something get rid of the video ref looking at raking of the ball

  6. They need to do something because all the experts are saying it wont exist in a few years, people are starting to realise its not a very enjoyable sport and most of Australia watches Aussie Rules now.

  7. gallops idea of expanding it will be good because they will get more supporters and ppl going to the game.. making more money and stuff.. and they should keep the salary cap but expand it up to like 4.8 million or something
