So then would my employer not be obligated to give it to me? Or do they have to?

  1. If you can't find your old paycheck stubs, the only way to find out your YTD earnings is either to ask your former employer for a copy of your last paystub, or wait until the end of the year when they mail you your W-2. I can't think of any other way.

  2. Find your last pay stub. It might be easier to contact your former employer.

    Good luck.

  3. If you didn't save your stubs, asking your employer is the only way to get a copy.  There's no requirement for copies to be anywhere else.

You should receive a W-2 by the end of Jan 09 to include that income in your income tax return.
