I find that NOT having an answering machine at home helps me.  If its important, people use my cell number.  Without a machine at home, i find I dont have to come home to 12 messages from idiot telemarketers telling me its important to call back.

Answering machines are very, for many reasons.

Home use is where is you want to screen the calls and by pass the bill collectors. another is no one wants to answer the phone when they are using the bath or the shower.

another is people on diffrent time zones, cause it hard to keep up with them all. Also when no is home to grab the phone or when you walking from shopping and you hands are full and the phone is ringing, when you are sleeping

Cell phones, cut down on driving and talking on a cell phone is some areas, when you are sleeping, cell phone on charge, and if there is someone that you aint talking to. when battery is dead.
