    The HMA was a period when discoveries of older skills and knowledge increased dramatically. Painting, knowledge about human anatomy, engineering, and a host of other knowledge areas all blossomed, leading to the Renaissance in the mid 14th-Century.

    It's interesting to note that the church gradually lost control of libraries and book depositories, leaking knowledge back into the general populace. There is also the fact that Irish monks stored much of the written material saved after the fall of the Roman empire. This information continued to be studied and gradually found its way back into society, thereby transitioning from the Dark Ages to the Renaissance.
