  1. A volunteer.

  2. A lover of what ever it is, I could of think of a  lot of good and bad things.  So what is your point.

  3. That would be an amateur (as opposed to a professional, who does it for money.)  From the Latin, amo, love.

  4. Honestly, that question has n't yet been answered yet here... i can say "true lover..."

  5. Great answers.

I didn't see anyone mention "hobbyist"

  6. An act of benevolence or a benevolent person!

  7. ...a mother?

    ...a teacher?

    ...a firefighter?

    ...a police officer?

    ...NOT a professional athlete?

    ...NOT a politician?

    ...a starving artist?

    ...very fortunate?

    ...happily employed?

To answer the question semantically -

Several words come to mind, but they all seem to have some flaw:

DEVOTEE is one who is ardently devoted to something; an enthusiast or advocate.  But, the devotion could still be ignited by money.

ALTRUIST is motivated by doing good for others.  But, the things they actually do can be many and varied.  What makes them altruists is that they do whatever they do out of concern for others - NOT because they have some particular affinity for the things they are doing.

UNCORRUPT implies a purity of condition.  If we do things for money, our motives change from a focus on the things we are doing to the money.  This change in focus corrupts our original motivation.  So, if we ignore the financial rewards for doing what we do, our motives remain pure and uncorrupt.  But, the word uncorrupt is an adjective and not a noun which is what you seems to be after.

ENTHUSIAST is the term I see most often used when people want to convey the idea that someone is passionate about something and to distinguish them from a professional who earns money at that thing.  A tennis ENTHUSIAST, or a writing ENTHUSIAST, or a gardening ENTHUSIAST is someone who enjoys and probably promotes tennis, writing or gardening because they are passionate about the activity - not because they make money doing it.

  8. amateur

  9. an enthusiast

    an altruist

    an artist

    a healer

    there's quite a long list  :)
