The HKp30 is a Polymore Plastick like a Glock I hate Glocks. Why didnt they go with Sig? Hk dont get me wrong is good but I like Sig..... 1. I'm not a huge fan of either, but between the two choices, I would take the Beretta 96 since it is in the larger .40 caliber.  The HK P30 is only available in 9mm, a round that is considered by some to be a questionable man-stopper.  Also, while HK makes fine weapons in general, Glock is still the king of polymer guns.  Beretta had a number of problems with broken slides in development of their 90 series of handguns.  However, I'm assuming they resolved those and the guns are now reliable.  Most gun experts say to stick to self-defense rounds of .40 or higher.  The .45 is generally the gold standard, but it doesn't look like that is one of your choices.  Good luck!
